Notification of Correct Spelling of Name of the Holy Prophet of Islam (Peace Be Upon Him) should be written as “Muhammad”

Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony has issued Notification on 21-03-2016 in connection with Correct Spelling of Name of the Holy Prophet of Islam (Peace Be Upon Him) should be written as “Muhammad” in Official and Non-official record.

It was notified vide Gazette Notification of the dated 26-03-1979, 12 Maqrch 1985, 29 June 2004 and 24th Sep 2008 for general information and guidance that the correct spelling of the name of the Holy Prophet of Islam (Peace be Upon Him) should always be written in all official and non-official record as “Muhammad”.

However the same is again notified for the general information and guidance that the spelling of the Holy Prophet’s name other than those shown above or in the abbreviated forms should never be used.
